A night with Barack Obama and Friends

Posted on Sunday 31 August 2008

My Dad has been in politics for sometime, he is always poking me here or there to attempt to get me involved, and until now, I just didn’t care!

I have followed Barack Obama since his speech at the DNC in 2004. I have never found myself as excited about a political candidate until now.

While McCain is releasing political ads that are flat out LIES, Obama is talking about ‘working together in Washington’. I still have problems understanding how ANYONE can even THINK about voting for McCain. (sorry Speelmans, I just don’t get it!)
But do we HONESTLY think that the republican agenda has made our lives better in the last 8 years???
No Child Left behind was the worst thing that could have happened to education… a republican policy… The Patriot Act does EXACTLY what most republicans are worried about, giving government TOO much power… And it complete tossed the rights given to us in the constitution out the window! Yet, it was a republican led bill… I just don’t understand what American’s are thinking when they vote republican!!!!

Seems to me that republicans are uninformed, uneducated about politics, and one issue voters.

Money - Fact is if Obama wins, 95% of Americans will get a tax break! That is a fact!!! McCains commercial about raising taxes is ONLY true if you make LOADS of $$$, or if you own a Fortune 500 company.

Abortion
- NO ONE, is going to do touch Roe V. Wade, People have voted republican because they’re pro-life for 8 years now… and what has Bush done with abortion… NOTHING! McCain will also do nothing, and Obama will do nothing. Messing with Roe V. Wade is political suicide. This is why no one has touched it. So why waste your vote on a republican who will make the lives of everyone else horrible, when you KNOW they’re not going to do anything with Abortion or Roe V. Wade anyways!

Hand Outs or Wasted Tax Dollars
- The idea that Democrats are giving hand outs to people, and wasting our tax dollars to take care of people who won’t take care of themselves. This, in my opinion, is the biggest difference between Democrats and Republicans. Democrats believe we should lend people a helping hand when people are unable to help themselves. That the gov’t is there to work FOR the people. And republicans believe that people should do this all on their own, if they can’t… TOO BAD!

Obama’s plan for higher education is that… if a student, serves in the military or green peace, or volunteers in a public service program, the gov’t will pay for that students education.

One of the biggest complaints I hear from republicans is that they don’t want to continue to float the bill for those who aren’t willing to work to make a living. I haven’t seen a policy to correct this come out of the republican camp in 8 years? And we can’t just ignore that lower/middle class of people who might need a bit of a helping hand. (Although I’m sure most republican’s would be happy to completely ignore them!) Think Chaos Theory. If you don’t know or understand Chaos Theory, it’s the idea that everything in the world is linked together. So bettering the lives of those in Lower/Middle class, will only serve to better our lives as well.

Liberal Media - Then there’s this farce that Rush Limbaugh talks about “Liberal Media”…

Listen, I’m a liberal, and I hate the media, I can’t find a TV channel that is NOT conservative. NPR is the closest thing to liberal media there is… CNN is now the Conservative News Network with A-holes like Glenn Beck on all the time… Fox News is ridiculously Conservative… I can’t find a TV channel that even comes close to being Liberal… PBS, is the closest thing.
So, this whole thing about the “Liberal Media” has just been an excuse for republican’s to Deny all the wrong doings and F’ups the news reports on… If Fox News came out with a story about how Bush’s approval rating was lower than any president in history… Rush would come out the next day accusing Fox News of being Liberal.

Foreign Policy - I’m still not sure that our highest officials didn’t KNOW about 9/11, and allowed it to happen (if you want to see some scary stuff, watch “Loose Change”) More people across the world HATE us now than ever. I don’t really care if people don’t like us if we’re doing the right things. But we’re NOT doing ANY of the right things. Bush LIED to the American people to go into Iraq. Why was everyone all bent out of shape w/ Clinton lied about a BJ, but Bush sends American’s off to DIE based on a Lie, and no one seems to care.

In the first time in American history we invaded a sovereign country, to look for ‘weapons of mass destruction’ which didn’t exist!

This country is in DESPERATE need of a change! Maybe it’s just because I’m older and have a lot more to lose these days, but I’ve never been SCARED before as an American… and McCain SCARES THE CRAP out of me!

Yesterday we went to an Obama Rally in Dublin Ohio. They originally had planned to fill one set of the stands at the football stadium and half the field. However, enough people showed up to pack the ENTIRE field, and ALL of the stands.

My Dad told me he hasn’t seen this type of enthusiasm and positivity in a campaign since John F. Kennedy came to Mansfield, Ohio.

It was the most exciting thing I’ve been to in years! Several Democratic Candidates from the Dublin and Columbus area showed up to briefly address the crowd.

John Glenn

Sherrod Brown

Ted Strickland were all there and gave great speeches.

Joe Biden talked about his long time friend John McCain, and his poor choice in running mate (considering her entire state of Alaska has half as many people as Franklin County.)

Finally, Barack Obama gave a wonderful speech telling us how he, with our help, plans to shape the American of tomorrow.

Obama

I beg you… I am pleading with all of you who might read this… (that’s right, I’m not above begging!) PLEASE vote for Barack Obama, for the sake of my daughter, your kids, or your grandchildren, for our soldiers who are dying in Iraq, for the sake of this GREAT NATIONS’ future.

Keep American Strong VOTE OBAMA

A Face A Mother Could Love…

Here is just a little fun picture of Jillian!  I haven’t posted in awhile and decided I would get something up really quickly tonight before hitting the sack.  She is growing like a weed…talking more, grabbing onto things (and putting things in her mouth), laughing, and oh so much more.  Anymore, she is so funny to sit and talk to that I find myself only wanting to do that!

So Happy Together…

Jaden and Jillian are becoming quite the buddies.  They see each other at least once every two weeks (sometimes more) and now they have started to discover each other.  It is exciting to see them growing up together and we can only wait for the days when they are pinching and tormenting each other.  The pictures below are from a night in which we hosted Jaden and his family at our house and she shared her favorite playmat with him.  At one point, she was talking up a storm…I’m sure she was telling him how cool her toy was and how he needed to get one (or maybe she was saying, “Don’t get used to this kid, I’m not always going to share with you!”).

My Little Big Girl

When Jillian was born, our friend Geoff bought her the cutest dress.  It was so pretty I wanted her to be able to wear it right away but it was too big.  Now that Jillian is 3 1/2 months old, she can wear the dress and I can hardly believe that it fits!  We got her all dressed up for Finn’s baptism and she looked adorable.  When we got home,  I couldn’t resist taking some pictures of her in the dress.  She was quite the model that day, even giving us some smiles as well!

Another New Catholic

This past Sunday, we went to Finnegan’s baptism.  I am very happy to say that I got to be a part of this ceremony as Finn’s Godmother.  It was  a beautiful day and Melissa and Joe were able to have a very personal baptism with Fr. Jim at her sister’s house.  The whole thing was so beautiful.  Thanks so much Melissa and Joe for allowing me to be a part of this day and a part of Finn’s life!
